NO TO THE NEW WASTE INCINERATOR, IN CHINON OR ELSEWHERE

The Union for the reprocessing of household waste in the Chinonais (SMICTOM) is planning to build a new incinerator on the site of Saint Benoît la Forêt. The new plant's already outdated technology is thus to operate throughout the first half of the 21st Century in spite of the dangers of waste incineration to public health and to the biosphere, condemned by all environmental defense organizations.
In order to prevent the renewal of the disastrous consequences of waste incineration on the air, on the earth, on the food chain and on our health, we, citizens of the SMICTOM area and of the Indre and Loire department demand that the plan to build a new incineration plant be immediately adjourned and that all the alternative solutions available be implemented (composting and bio-digestion, increased efficiency in reduction and recycling and reversible stockage).
